The Berggruen Internship Program (2022-2023) Call for Applications

 

What We Do:

The Berggruen Institute was established in 2010. We work across cultures, disciplines, and political boundaries, engaging great thinkers to develop and promote long-term answers to the biggest challenges of the 21st Century.


The Berggruen China Center is a hub for East-West research and dialogue dedicated to the cross-cultural and interdisciplinary study of the transformations affecting humanity. The Center engages China’s most outstanding thinkers to examine, share, and develop ideas to address global challenges. Intellectual themes focus on frontier sciences, technologies, and philosophy; frontier technologies and society; and transformation of governance.


The Berggruen Research Center at Peking University was established on the Peking University campus on December 19th, 2018.


The 2022-2023 Berggruen Intern program runs from July 2022 to June 2023.

Position 1 : Research Assistant

Scope of Work: Assist the Center’s research team in the advancement of our research programs

    ■  Assist the researcher in literature reviews and in preparing, editing, and proofreading Chinese and English text materials related to the Center's research programs

    ■  Provide necessary assistance for the various academic activities organized by the Center

    ■  Assist the researcher in communicating with other scholars, including the preparation of interview reports, etc.

    ■  Communicate with the researcher about your work on a regular basis

    ■  Assist Berggruen fellows in their research programs at the Center

    ■  Assist the Center’s fellows in carrying out their research programs

    ■  Discuss your thoughts and ideas in these fields with relevant scholars

    ■  Are either in your third or fourth year of a bachelor’s degree program or in your Master’s degree program



Position 2 : Program Assistant

Scope of Work: Offer opinions on the design of the program from the initial planning stage to the end

    ■  Help with the Chinese language materials for programs and events, including proofreading Chinese materials translated from English, event promotion documents, agendas, and reminders

    ■  Provide support for online and offline events

    ■  Write summaries for events; the summaries will be used on the Berggruen Institute website as well as printed materials

    ■  Assist the Center Director with her research projects

        - You will be asked to assist in allocating research resources

    ■  Other tasks that are related to programming and communications

Position 3 : Communications Assistant

Scope of Work: Assist the Communications team to develop high-quality, multi-channel communications campaigns to build brand awareness of the Berggruen China Center

    ■  Create effective communications materials, including short video clips, quote cards, and more

    ■  Manage the Center’s accounts on multiple social media platforms and its community, including WeChat, Weibo, Bilibili, and the Center’s website

    ■  Analyze the Center’s social media outreach and prepare monthly/quarterly reports

    ■  Translate and proofread social media content

    ■  Liaise with Berggruen Institute’s Los Angeles-based social media accounts with content sharing

    ■  Other tasks related to the Center’s team activities

    ■  Are familiar with and can share a high interest in social media and community management

    ■  Have extensive computer skills (Adobe Creative Suite: Ps, Ai, Pr), impeccable phone etiquette and people skills, and experience working in a team environment

    ■  Are able to work independently and thrive in bringing creativity to the job

    ■  Are a team player

    ■  Major in communications, journalism, or fields related to the Center’s research focus

    ■  Experience operating social media accounts and/or managing digital platforms would be a plus



Position 4 : Chinese Content Assistant

Scope of Work: 

    ■  Edit and proofread Chinese manuscripts and translated materials from English to Chinese

    ■  Assist with cuilingMAG's website and WeChat account, as well as other Berggruen China Center online platforms, social media channels, and publications

    ■  Research NOĒMA’s content. NOĒMA is a magazine published by Berggruen Institute that explores the transformations sweeping our world
